Holi hai March 16, 2006

I don’t think many people would have spent their Holi
driving for around 350kms, but that’s what I did today.
Actually, our college suddenly announced 5 days holiday on
holi, so mom decided to meet all our relatives in those 5
days. But as probably my sis’s prac was scheduled for 16th
(she dint know the exact date even on 15th!), so we had to
come back on 15th. Because mom dint want me to drive at
night, we left home around 12 noon(usually it takes 6-7hrs).
I was afraid that we may face trouble in Bhiwani(frst big
town on the way) and Rohtak (Mallika Sherawat’s hometown).
There wasn’t any problem in Loharu(Nanaji’s town) and all
the roads were really empty. So I decide to make my new
speed record reaching 130kmph, but more was coming soon…
people were blocking the road in the very next village!
Unluckily central lock of car wasn’t working properly and
they forcefully opened the car’s doors … me, papa and most
of the car became colorful, although they spared mom and
sis… next in every village small children were standing on
both sides of road throwing water, colour, mud and even cow
dung on the car… so, we decide to stop near a “pani ki
tanki” before the city of Bhiwani coz surely there will be
bigger troubles in the bigger city… after me washing the car
and listening to mom and dad saying nth time that it was
really a bad decision to drive back home on “holi day” with
phrases like “ main to kah hi rahi thi ki kal chalte hain” ,
“mujhe to pata hi thaa ki aisa hi hoga” and the best one
“meri to koi manta hi nai hai”. Thus after deliberately
wasting 1 hour, hoping that “holi fever” would have subsided
somewhat by now, we were on the move again around 2 pm.
I could see many “visibly” drunken guys in the city but
nobody stopped us, same was the case in Rohtak… This made
mom and dad realize that after all it wasn’t very wrong to
get out today especially if we had started 1-2 hrs later
than what we had done… so, now I decided to get the most out
of the empty roads… especially after reaching NH1 in
Panipat…
My newly made record of 130kmph was broken many times with
highest speed being slightly above 140kmph,, and most
importantly, papa was sitting right next to me and contrary
to what I was hoping, was watching the speedometer and as
soon as I reached 140, he said “bass ab to record bhi ban
gaya ab to dheere kar le”.. Me promptly obliged by not going
above 120 in rest of the journey… Love you papa, I know you
never want me to drive fast but knowing that I will never
again get NH1 so empty, you allowed me to get this small
pleasure… I promise that I will never again exceed the speed
limit (its 90kmph on NH1) by so much again! In fact I myself
was feeling very unsafe at that time as even a small dog
coming suddenly on the road could have resulted in a big
accident at that speed, but still something made me going
faster and faster…
Finally reached home around 6pm which means only 5hrs
journey if we take out that 1 hour stop, best part being,
taking just below 2hrs between Panipat and Chandigarh!
Now after bath with excess of Sunsilk and Lux am feeling
nice and clean and cozy again, sitting in front of beloved
PC… living for so long (5 days!!) without PC and net, I am
looking forward to some good blogging and surfing in coming
days…..
