Happy again February 26, 2006

Finally I removed my last post. It was written in a very bad
mood and now, when I am happy again, it looked like an “eye
sore”. So, I decided to remove it. Although it still remains
in my “Drafts”, so I can always look back!

Happy Birthday February 21, 2006

Few days ago I forgot the birthday of a good friend even
though she herself had told me the date just one day before
it! I don’t know exactly how bad she felt, but her friend
told me that she was kinda depressed on that day(night) as
none of her friends called up around 00:00 hrs that night!!

It worries me sometimes because to be frank I never give
that much importance to birthdays and find it really
difficult to remember the birthdays of even the closest
friends (Tushar, one of my best friends, can testify this as
in past three years I have never wished him on that day, not
because I didn’t want to, but as I couldn’t remember the
damn date!). Now, if someone forgets your birthday, does it
mean that he/she doesn’t care for you? Well, at least I
don’t think so. The reason being that it is very much
possible that you can forget something even if it’s very
important for you. Yaar when one can forget identity
card/railway tickets/interview letters/practical files/lunch
box or the last date to deposit bills/fees/fines why is it
so inhuman to forget birthdays?

Personally I will be happier if instead of calling me at the
midnight to say “happy b’day” (which isn’t possible anyways
as I will most certainly keep my phone on silent mode at
that time), the guy/gal comes forward when I need their
company much more, like when I am sitting alone on the
library stairs in break or when I am the only one saying
“no” to a mass cut (has happened many times recently) or any
other such occasion. Why limit your show of love and
affection to just one or two days (second one has just
passed few days ago) per year?

So, as my birthday is just round the corner, I would like to
say that instead of waiting till midnight on that day and
disturbing yours as well as mine sweet dreams and precious
sleep, wish me in the morning and even if you forget that
day, it won’t matter much as true love/friendship can’t be
judged by one or two occasions only. Neither can it be
broken by one mistake!!

My Wishlist February 21, 2006

I was looking at the orkut’s wishlist link for many days, so
today I decided to make

my wishlist
. But even after around one hour of
searching, I could find only 4 items! And even in that,
Prius was not my first choice, in fact I wanted to add
REVA
but couldn’t find it on froogle, so added Prius as the
second best.

I am happy that I could find only 4 items to put in my
wishlist. Happy because it means that I am mostly satisfied
with whatever I already have! But if you think that its
because of my “ignorance” of “pleasures of life” then I will
like to ask you what else should I have included?? (With the
condition applied that it should be available on froogle).

Birthday resolutions February 19, 2006

Originally I had planned to make a few New Year Resolutions,
but could not do so due to a number of reasons. So, I
thought it will be a good idea to make these resolutions on
my birthday. But now I cant wait till that date, so here I
am making these resolutions, around two months after the new
year’s eve and few days before my birthday.

I will:

Blog at least once a week.

I can’t give any arguments in favor of this, but I feel that
blogging is a good habit and I should post at least once a
week.

Do pranayam + aerobics + weight exercise at least 3-4 times
a week.

2-3 years ago I used to exercise regularly, but due to some
“unknown” reason the schedule was disturbed. But I want to
restart it because 20-30 mins of exercise in morning can
make you active and full with energy for the whole day.

Try to wake up before 5:30 am.

It isn’t very early when you go to bed around 10:00pm and as
I am most active during the early hours, so these 1-2 hours
can be really useful. Plus it will also give me 20-30 mins
for exercise.

Gain at least 4-5 Kgs.

Well I am fed up with people commenting “tune khana-peena
chhod diya hai kya?”. Though I know I am totally fit and
healthy and can beat most of guys of my class in any
physical activity, but without those extra 4-5 kgs I won’t
be able to get that “respect” from others.

Not try to win arguments.

I heard somewhere that whenever you win an argument, you
loose a friend. I totally believe in this, but these days to
my horror I am finding that people are trying to avoid
opposing or arguing with me. This worries me as it means
that they think like “yaar isne man na to hai nai”. No yaar,
this is not the case at all.

Work on my spoken English.

Its kinda shameful for me that even after studying in
English medium schools and then in a good engineering
college, I still cant speak good English, though I can write
reasonably well in English but jab bolne ki baat aati hain,
its entirely different story.

Start studying at least one week before the mid-sems and two
before the end sems.

After coming to college I have hardly studied the course
books even one week before the exams, but this being the
last sem, before placements, I will like to do better this
time.

Prepare seriously for placements.

This means studying books like “Sedra-Smith” and “Morris
Mano” etc. because even though I am in third year but even
now I dont have full knowledge of many basic things

Not play any PC games.

This doesn’t seem very difficult now, as it has been more
than 1-2 months since I last played a game on pc, but still
I have wasted so much time in these games that I wont like
to repeat it again, especially in this “placement year”.

Not waste time on net.

Well “wasting” time on net will stand for reading blogs more
than one hour or reading BBC news on Africa etc for more
than 5 mins or reading summary of cricket matches for more
than 15 mins or scanning through ppl’s profiles on orkut/hi5
for more than 20 mins

Not waste time on “useless projects”.

Hmm its hard to classify them but anything about which I
cant write a 10 page report should fall into this category,
and I have wasted plenty of time on such things in past 2
years that I will certainly like to avoid them now.

Make at least one useful analog circuit.

Ya this is something that I will like to do even if it
doesn’t meet the 10-pag criteria, as I have hardly made any
analog circuit in past 2 and half years and it will be
shameful to sit in placements as an “electronics engineer”
without making anything “real analog”.

Not copy any assignment/practical files.

This is something which I can definitely do and which will
also help me in exams as then I will at least have some idea
ki class mein kya-kya kaam hua hai.

Dilemma!! February 8, 2006

add a comment

Have you ever competed with yourself? Well this is whats
happening with me right now.

I am participating in few events in the  Pecfest.
And it’s a misconception among my classmates and friends
that I know a lot about electronics and robotics
(misconception because I still don’t know things like, what
exactly does a “load line” in the characteristics of
diode/transistor mean and I don’t EVER remember whether
cathode is connected positive or anode or many such things
which even the first sem electronics guys should know).

Due to this misconception many people
(well for me 3-4 are many) are asking my help in getting
their ckts/robos up and running and the dilemma……….. I am
also participating in the same event! Hmmm if I tell them
whatever I can think about their problems then they would
know all about my designs etc. (and the worst part, my
team-mates will kill me!) and if I don’t tell them, then it
will mean that I am not being honest with them.

Yaar how can you refuse to help when
some one is getting really mad for a very small problem
which is very easy to solve if they look in the right
direction, but given the lack of time (and the inability of
some ppl to keep cool) they cant even think about the very
obvious things.

And if my telling someone to add one
pull-up resistor means that they will defeat us in the
competition, then I guess it will be better to change our
design instead of hoping that others will not be able to
compete due to some “silly” mistakes. Isn’t it?

It seems the best thing to do will be
to tell the person “yaar I m also participating in this
event, so don’t expect me to tell or do everything for you,
but of course if u are missing some thing very basic and
obvious then I will certainly point that out
” but if I
see someone with tears in eyes and ready to break(hvnt seen
any one yet, but hope u get the idea..) then I will
definitely like to ensure that the person is at least able
to participate. Wining should not always be the ultimate
aim!!

It is a good thing that u help
others but u must make it sure that ur team mates are in
full agreement with what u r doing.if ur project is working
fine and then u r helping others it’s ok but if ur own
project is lying unoperational and then u r helping others
in a project then it may not seem good to some people.

Aapka commet pa ke hum dhanay ho gaye!!

About dharam-sankat,u mite also have experianced it when a
teacher gives an assignment in class and if u r among the
first ones to complete it. U cant say no to ppl who want to
copy it and at the same time, you think that if u giv it one
guy,it will be surely copied by half of the class….hai
