I am writing this post while travelling in a bus and I started wondering about the irony of my situation.
Here I am blogging on the world wide web while travelling with the help of my unlimited data GPRS connection, sounds great. Ok the speed sucks, but that's the only difference. Otherwise its same whether I had been on this village road in Haryana or the metro in New Delhi or the tram in San Francisco!
But the moment I make this comparison, I realise that everything except my mobile phone is entirely different story. I am travelling by by a government roadways bus, whose windows make that trrrr vibrating noise even when its in neutral gear. The road is so bad that I have to stop typing and hold the seat every couple of minutes to avoid falling on the person sitting on my side. And the service is so bad that I will need to change 3 buses and spend around 3 hours to reach a place around 100kms away!
Why can I get world class services on one side and totally crappy service on the other?
Is it just because of the fact that mobiles are controlled by private companies and other infrastructure by government?
And not only in villages, this difference lies there in big cities too! I can get a 2mbps broadband connection at my home in Gurgaon. But if I have to go to my office (which is around 12kms away) in public transport, it will take 4 changes and more than one hour! And both are provided by private parties, so we can't even blame government here!! I really don't know the reason here. Because there is a great demand for better transport and whoever provides will make profit also, but still no one seems to care! I must be missing something here. Would love to know what's the mystery here.
