Exception is the rule July 5, 2006

It is said “exception is the rule in biology”. But I feel
its also the rule almost everywhere(or at least in
electronics).
I tried installing
linux on my and my friend’s PC. Same DVD worked fine
on one Laptop and refused to install on the PC!! Same
CDs worked once
but the next day they won’t work even on the same PC!!
Finally after getting Linux up and ready, I could not
connect the two PCs through LAN card. But when I tried 2-3
times more, it worked!! I did nothing different and still,
once it worked while at other times it didn’t!
If I remove my hard-disk or add any other hard-disk to my
PC, most of the times my PC wont boot. Then after 3rd or 4th
try and by slightly tapping on the motherboard and
hard-disk, it will work!!
It reminds me of the times when my
Chachaji/Mamaji/Cousin
used to give a few jerk/tap to the TV when it won’t catch
DD1 or changing the position of radio to get the reception
of BBC.
Still it beats me how giving a tap/jerk or changing the
position by few cms
can make an electronics equipment work.
