Where is global warming? May 22, 2006

Ya its true that I am a bit influenced by Michael
Crichton’s

State of Fear
. But after looking at the sexy weather
outside with pitch dark clouds, I can’t help thinking
how in the era of global warming, we are having such
nice weather near the end of May? Where it usually used
to be burning heat at this time of year. Ok I agree that
this is is a temporary phase and in a week or two we
will again have same simmering heat but still can’t see
people being roasted by sun and oceans rising to drown
our coastline.

Last night I was reading one

Discovery Channel report
 that smog (soot plus dust)
from Indian sub-continent is forming a kind of cover
over Indian ocean which is blocking sun’s rays and
nullifying the effect of increase in green house gases.
And they say that reducing these “pollutants” may have
adverse effect in terms of rise in temperature!!!

At least we can agree on one thing said by Michael ,
global weather(including global warming) is such a
complex subject that while trying to “correct” it, we
may do more harm than helping ourselves…

If you don’t want to read the whole book, I will suggest
at least going though the

excerpts
 and

essays
 (one of them

here
) on Michael’s site and related discussions
here(scientific
evidences against Micheal’s),

here
(this guy seems more sympathetic to
Crichton)and

here
(this guy seems totally against him…and

this
 seems more balanced review…

And
after reading this book (as an ebook like most other
books that I read) few months ago, I do feel that we are
still not qualified enough to say so assertively whats
right and whats not right for the earth as a whole but
still we can’t sit idle……

hmm..nice thought provoking post
sumit. There may be arguments galore about global warming,
but I think we as a soceity are definitely not doing justice
to the environment, and just for that need to be more
conscious.
